Letting them go – a walk through the euthanasia journey

Blessed are those who mourn. We believe that while this is the hardest decision you will have to make as a pet owner, there are times when euthanasia is also the kindest decision for your pet. Euthanasia is a Greek word meaning “beautiful death.” We strive to ensure that your pet’s ending is a peaceful one, and believe this is best accomplished in the comfort of their own home. Here is what you can expect:

When Dr. Melissa and Jamie arrive at your home, they will greet both you and your pet. We will then review the consent form, answer any questions you may have, and complete the payment process.

The procedure begins with a gentle sedation injection. After this, Dr. Melissa and Jamie will step out to give you some private time with your pet as they relax. Once you’re ready, we will administer the euthanasia injection. This is usually given through an IV in one of your pet’s legs, but may be administered through a different route depending on Dr. Melissa’s assessment of your pet’s specific needs.

After the euthanasia is complete, we will offer a keepsake—an ink paw or nose print—as a gift for your family. Finally, we will prepare your pet for either burial or transport to a cremation facility, according to your wishes.
